Become the Coach Who Builds
Mental Toughness
Learn how to integrate mental performance training into your coaching without adding hours to practice or stepping outside your role as a coach.
You already coach the physical side. Skills, drills, conditioning, strategy. You probably also try to coach the mental side; you tell athletes to "shake it off," "stay focused," and "believe in yourself."
Those phrases aren't wrong. It’s just not enough.
Coach training from The Grit Lab gives you the framework, language, and tools to actually teach mental skills, just as you teach physical skills. Built into the practices, conversations, and moments you're already having.
Whether you coach baseball, soccer, gymnastics, lacrosse, or anything in between, the framework adapts to your sport.
who this is for
Who This Is For
This is for coaches who…
- Want to coach the whole athlete, not just the physical side
- Are tired of saying "stay focused" and not seeing it stick
- Want shared mental language across their team and program
- Are ready to invest in their own development as a coach
This is NOT…
- Therapy or clinical training
- A one-day workshop you sit through and forget
- A program that requires a clinical background to deliver
- Asking you to play counselor with your athletes
- Something that requires you to add hours to practice
The G.R.I.T. Framework for Coaches
Our 4-week Coach Workshop Series teaches you to implement the same mental performance framework we use with athletes, so you can reinforce these skills every day, in practice and in competition.
| Week | Focus | GRIT Component | What You'll Learn |
|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Foundational Mental Control | Ground Your Mind | How to spot when your athlete's heads are somewhere else, and the cues to bring them back fast. |
| Week 2 | Internal Dialogue Mastery | Reframe Your Voice | How to hear what your athletes are telling themselves, and how to coach the voice in their head without sounding like a therapist. |
| Week 3 | Performing Under Pressure | Ignite Under Pressure | Pre-game routines you can build into your team prep. Cues that help athletes turn nerves into fuel. Activate their peak performance when the stakes are high |
| Week 4 | Learning from Setbacks | Transform Through Setbacks | How to coach mistakes, losses, and bad games. The bounce-back sequences that keep one mistake from becoming three. Building resilience and using mistakes as fuel for growth. |
Each session is 60 minutes and is designed for immediate application. You won't just learn concepts, you'll practice them, plan how to use them with your team, and walk away with tools you can implement that week.
Integrate Mental Skills Into What You Already Do
This isn't about adding a "mental skills block" to your already packed schedule. It's about embedding mental performance into the coaching you're already doing.
-
Integrate GRIT drills and language into daily training. Use cues that reinforce mental skills during reps, not separate from them.
-
Prepare athletes mentally using simple routines and grounding techniques. Help them show up ready to compete, not anxious and overthinking.
-
Coach athletes using GRIT cues and language in real time. Know what to say (and what not to say) when they're struggling.
-
Debrief in a way that builds resilience instead of shame. Turn losses and mistakes into learning moments that actually stick.

Questions Coaches Ask
-
That's exactly the point. You don't need to be an expert. We give you the framework, the language, and the tools, and you weave it into what you're already doing. If you can coach a drill, you can coach mental skills.
-
Team workshops are a one-time (or short-term) intervention where we work directly with your athletes. Coach training equips YOU to reinforce mental skills all season long, every practice, every game, every conversation. They work great together, but coach training has the longest-lasting impact.
-
The GRIT Framework applies across ages and sports. During your training, we'll customize examples and applications to whatever sport you coach. If you work with multiple teams, you can adapt the tools to each team.
-
No. The whole point is integration, not addition. You'll learn how to embed mental cues into drills you're already running, conversations you're already having, and moments that are already happening in practice and games.
-
Absolutely. Small group training is a great option for coaching staff. You'll all use the same language and framework, making reinforcement across your program seamless.
